Attorneys for a Conway woman convicted of killing her baby after she admitted ingesting cocaine during her pregnancy say her release this past week was a great victory, but there’s still work to be done.

Regina Denise McKnight pleaded guilty under N.C. vs Alford to involuntary manslaughter and was sentenced to five years in jail. She was given credit for the time she served while her case made its way through the appeals process, which took more than five years.

So with her sentence satisfied, she walked out of jail Thursday.

McKnight was flanked by a team of attorneys, which included Morgan Martin of Conway, Matthew Hirsch of Washington, D.C., and Rock Wise of Greenwood.
